Sony backtrack in Helldivers fiasco

Sony has reversed plans to enforce mandatory PSN linking for Helldivers 2 players on Steam.

On Friday, the publisher announced that Helldivers 2 players on Steam would soon be required to link to a PSN account for security reasons.

There was immediate backlash from the community, with over 300k negative reviews from Helldivers 2 players on Steam. Many asked for a refund as the game was pulled from sale in 177 countries where PSN is not available.

Finally, Sony saw sense and made a U-turn…

“Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward,” PlayStation wrote on its official account.

“We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”

While in this instance, common sense prevailed, it will be interesting to see if Sony try to force PSN linking for future games.
