In what began as an Internet rumor towards the beginning of this year, there was a huge amount of speculation in regards to Valve creating some type of gaming system to compete with Sony and Microsoft’s next generation consoles, this being the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 respectively. Finally, Gabe Newell recently came forward to confirm that Valve was indeed in the process of creating a Steam Box to compete with next generation consoles.
At the time of this announcement, Newell did not provide any detailed information in regards to what this Steam Box would entail, or the time-frame that it would possibly be released. Yesterday, Cadred revealed the Valve actually plans to have this system released as soon as Q1 2013. With a release as early as this, Valve will provide themselves with the prime opportunity to get the jump on the PS4 and Xbox 720 prior to their release.
